11 February 2005

I know, I know, it's been quite a while since I put anything here. Well, life is what happens when you are not looking. I started classes on the 17 of Jan. Believe it or not, I'm currently sporting a 90 avaerage in my worst subject which is pre-algebra...I was so shocked! The hardest part about it so far is getting math problems and all attendent work down in a word document. That is a chore that takes anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.

Criminology is like reading smoke and mirrors. When I read the textbook, I feel like one page says, "now you see it" and the next says "now you don't!" I swear magicians wrote the darned thing. I hate it but it also tells me I will never take sociology as the two go hand in hand

I bought my house back at the end of Januarry so I spent a lot of time from the 17th to the 30 of Jan. jumping through hoops for the mortgage company, the underwriters and the title company. Then to top it off, the mortgage was not set up the original way that we agreed on. I went ahead and signed with the thought that next year I am going to re-finance and structure the mortgage the way I want it. I have already started looking into it. Buying a house twenty years ago was certainly much easier and I see now why many people choose not to have their lives and privacy invaded by these people. It was extremely annoying.

I have also ordered my birthday present to me...My kids are not working so I decided I would buy myself something. Something I have never done before cause mostly I just ignore my birthday. Although last year, my oldest daughter did make me a cake.

Anyway when the present gets here I will take some pictures and post them. I think everyone that knows me will be mightily surprised when they see it.

Now on to some of the following things that I have been meaning to catch up on.

I found this on my sister in law's blog and thought it was kinda neat. Hopefully it will post correctly. If not you will be left wondering exactly what I put in here.

How evil are you?

The Friday Five

1) Would you rather live in a world with or without technology such as computers, cars, airplanes, bombs? I guess it would have to be "with" as I like cars, computers and planes. I can live without the bombs and Television. Just give me lots of music
2) If you had to live without either heating in your house or air conditioning, which one would you keep? Since I have a huge fireplace, it would have to be A/C...can stand summer and the heat that goes with it.
3) If you had to own five dogs, what kind would you get? I'm with my SIL on this one....little ones, although I have an added requirement on no yappy ones....
4) If the world had a front porch, what would you do on it? Sit on the porch swing and watch the sunset. Enjoy cool evening breezes and watch the stars rise.
5) Would you rather live in a neighborhood where you know all of your neighbors by name, or where everyone sticks to their own business? I live in a neighborhood now that is half and half that. I know the neighbors on one side but not on the other and am not really interested in knowing them. I also live in a neighborhood that has a lot older people in it who don't socialize much. I would prefer a neighborhood where we all knew each other and looked out for one another, but I think that is a Utopia in today's society.

And another set from way back
1. How often do you cook at home? The kids do most of the cooking, but I will probably be doing more of as I want to loose a little weight and will have better control of the meals
2. How did you learn how to cook? We used to each have a night to cook back when I was in the eighth grade. It was trial and error, but mom and dad did try to help and and put up with the disasters we sometimes created. I remember cooking pork chops so long one night that they were crunchy. My night was Tuesday and it seemed like I always got pork chops. I hated pork chops for the longest time .
3. What is a meal that has special meaning to you? Ham and potato salad and german chocolate cake. It is what I used to request for my birthday.
4. What is the last meal you cooked? believe it or not pork chops on the George Foreman...au gratin potatoes from scratch with skim milk( worked out great, but I lost the fat battle with regular cheese...lol I hate no fat cheese....it's closest cousin is rubber) and broccoli normandy (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots)
5. What is your least favorite thing to cook? I don't really have a least favorite, I have some I don't make very often because they are time intensive. I make chicken and dumplings that will make you want to slap your mama( Texas humor here), but it eats up a lot of time and can be messy rolling out dumplins. That is why when I make it I make two hugh pots at one time and freeze one.

I have already recieved my income tax refund. Since I did it with turbo tax I got it the 28th of Jan. I did it without the w-2s because I don't need them for my benefits and I knew how much I had made year to date when I did work. I didn't show the taxes that I had paid so I didn't get those back, I also didn't have the form from the school showing my tuition and that I am a student. I may have to make an ammended return, but I figure that since they will owe me more they won't bother me too much.
I got a good refund and tried to not "blow" it with nothing to show for it. So I got a new freezer, and the full glass storm door for the front door that should have been put up during the remodel but had to go back when the jerks over spent. The boys put down some tile in the garage where the washer, dryer, fridge and freezer are(yes, we have two fridges, the old one with the freezer on the top is in the garage.) it looks really good. We got the paint to finish the breakfast nook(something we decided after the remodel was done) and are gonna measure to put up a chair rail in the breakfast nook and paint in there. We are also going to hand paint a border around the top of the wall near the ceiling instead of putting up the pre-made stuff, as we can't find any we like. We got the grout to re-grout the smaller bathroom. I got drawer and door pulls for the cabinets in the kitchen. I haven't found any for the bathroom and vanity that I like so they will wait till I see something. Since mortar and the dye for it are relatively inexpensive I will pick up some of that when it gets warmer to re-mortar around the posts in the front as we are getting a lot of chipping between the bricks and I need to keep them up. The problem will be getting the mortar the right shade of pink to match.
Eric and Erin got money for driving lessons, although I will have to take Eric to get another permit. Danielle will be getting new glasses and new shirts and Gregory got new clothes that he needed( although again his paints don't fit in the waist. I bought him 34s at Christmas and he already needs 32s, again...This is the third time that has happened).
I will take pictures of everything before we start to work (except the tile cause it is already down.) And then I will take some when we get done. We also painted the vent in the floor in the kitchen and the one in the wall copper because we couldn't find new ones to fit. The copper goes with the everything in the kitchen really well. Now I think I will have to find some decorative copper pans to hang on the sofit in the kitchen to pull it all together.

That is about it for now.
Till next time.
